Здесь я собрал названия всех новых видов, подвидов, вариететов и рас муравьёв, открытых и описанных в 1954 году. Не все они признаются современными систематиками, но и не все современные виды будут признаны таковыми будущими поколениями биологов.  

       Всего в списке 24 новых таксона (видов, подвидов, вариететов и рас) муравьёв. Это почти рекордный минимум новоописаний за предшествующие почти сто лет (меньше было открыто только в 1949 году = 19 таксонов и два года спустя, в 1956 = 14 таксонов).
       Ниже приводится список литературы 1954 года, главным образом по систематике. Аргентинским мирмекологом (эмигрантом из СССР) Николаем Кузнецовым был описан новый род Paranamyrma с новым видом Paranamyrma solenopsidis Kusnezov. Интересно, что в базе данных Hymenoptera Name Server он не значится, как и то, что в этом году Томас Боргмейер выделил новую трибу азиатских кочевых муравьёв Aenictini (Borgmeier, 1954).
       Среди новинок 1954 года нет известных видов, но не надо забывать, что именно в этом году опубликован 1-й номер нового международного журнала "Insectes Sociaux", большая часть статей которого посвящена муравьям. Среди них ключевая работа Уильяма Брауна по высшей классификации подсемейств (Brown, W. L., Jr. "Remarks on the internal phylogeny and subfamily classification of the family Formicidae." Insect. Soc. 1: 21-31.), заложившая основы под все последующие филогенетические размышления в этом сложнейшем вопросе. Начало новой эпохи в мирмекологии. Всего в 1954 году опубликовано 174 мирмекологические работы.
