      Филип Уард (Philip S. Ward) специализируется на древесных муравьях подсемейства Pseudomyrmecinae. Также известны его работы по Rhytidoponera, Myrmeciinae, по фауне Австралии и Калифорнии и по общим вопросам систематики и филогении муравьев. Им открыт уникальный муравей-Дракула рода Adetomyrma на острове Мадагаскар.

       Свое образование он получил в Канаде (B.Sc. Biology, Queens University, Canada, 1973) и в Австралии (Ph.D. Zoology, University of Sydney, Australia, 1979). В последнии годы работает в Университете Калифорнии в Дэйвисе.
