Cho, Y. S., Y. M. Lee, et al. (2002). "Prevalence of Pachycondyla chinensis venom allergy in an ant-infested area in Korea." J. Allergy. Clin. Immunol. 110: 54-57.
Skin prick tests with 6 common inhalant allergens, 3 bee venom allergens, and P. chinensis whole body extract were performed on all ant-allergic subjects, on 86 asymptomatic residents, and on 37 controls outside the area. The serum- specific IgE to P. chinensis extract was determined by ELISA. Seven subjects (2.1%) reported that they had experienced systemic allergic reactions to P. chinensis stings; 4 of them had anaphylactic reactions. Large local reactions occurred in an additional 5 subjects (1.6%). All subjects with systemic allergic reactions had positive skin prick test results to P. chinensis extract, whereas 23.3% of asymptomatic residents and 2.7% of the controls showed positive skin prick test results. The serum-specific IgE level was significantly higher in the subjects with systemic reactions than in the subjects with local reactions, the asymptomatic sensitizers, and the nonatopic controls. Sensitization to bee venom was found in 25% of the P chinensis -allergic subjects; this was significantly higher than the 3% rate seen in nonsensitized subjects. In conclusion, we report a 2.1% prevalence of systemic allergic reactions after P. chinensis stings, based on self-reported symptoms, in an ant-infested area in Korea.

*[IN KOREAN; abstract, names, references, & figure captions in english]. All of the specimens of the Subfamily Myrmicinae (Hym., Formicidae) preserved at the Korean Entomological Institute, Korea University, were reexamined on the basis of external fine features using Scanning Electron Microscope. The Myrmicinae fauna of Korea consisted of twenty three species of thirteen genera including an unrecorded species, Monomorium floricola (Jerdon). Fifteen species of three genera have been reviewed but eight unconfirmed species of three genera have been described making reference to the various related literatures. *[Messor aciculatus misspelled Messor aciculatum.]
Aphaenogaster famelica, Aphaenogaster schmidti, Crematogaster laboriosa, Crematogaster sordidula osakensis, Leptothorax congruus, Leptothorax koreanus, Messor aciculatus, Monomorium floricola, Monomorium minutum, Monomorium pharaonis, Myrmecina graminicola nipponica, Myrmica kurokii, Myrmica rubra ruginodis, Myrmica scabrinodis saposhnikovi, Myrmica sulcinodis, Myrmica sulcinodis sulcinodo-scabrinodis, Pheidole fervida, Pheidole nodus, Pristomyrmex pungens, Solenopsis fugax, Strumigenys lewisi, Tetramorium caespitum, Vollenhovia emeryi

Kim, B. J. and C. W. Kim (1983). "A systematic revision of the genus Formica in Korea on the basis of external fine features (Hym.: Formicidae)." Entomol. Res. Bull. (Seoul) 9: 57-67.
Some species of Formica Linne from Korea were studied by using scanning electron microscope in the present paper. The authors tried to find out distinct new characters for formica under SEM because these species of Korean Formica group were very similar to each other. After examining all the materials collected in Korea, four species were recognized including two unrecorded species, Formica transkaucasica and Formica truncorum. All the species treated here were redescribed on the basis of distinct new characters observed only using SEM.

While authors were analyzing scanning electron microscopic characters of the abundant ants collected from the several islands around the peninsula of Korea, one unrecorded species of Korean Formica was found; Formica fusca. In the present paper it was redescribed on the basis of external fine features using scannon electron microscope. If it is added to fauna of Korean Formica, total species of genus Formica is eleven.

From May, 1983 up to now author has collected the ants from the several islands to investigate if they had a conspicuous isolation mechanism between mainland and islands around the peninsula of Korea. Among them the collections of Is. Ullыngdo will be treated in this paper. As a result of examining the samples, six species of five genus were identified. In the present paper they were reported and redescribed on the basis of external fine features using scanning electron microscope. Because all of them were unrecorded species of Is. Ullыngdo except one, Camponotus japonicus, total species of fauna from Is. Ullыngdo becomes twelve.
